I hadn't checked my comments in a long time and just noticed and approved this one... I have another blog post that is about to rollout listing a great deal of these various automotive Twitter accounts but I didn't have the @onstar one so I will add that one now and you'll see the post rollout in the next week or two!

I just spent a couple of hours looking all of these up last week to update a list we had internally and I was surprised to note the amount of growth in accounts that has occurred in the past couple of years. In addition to these brand accounts, there are also quite a few accounts that are based on location (@Kia_Motors in Seoul vs. @Kia in Irvine, CA), parent company (@GM), model (@FordFiesta), motorsports (@fordracing), PR (@FordNews), and even features (@OnStar). Several brands also have their own Twitter accounts devoted specifically to customer service and many of these brands have Facebook pages to match their Twitter accounts.

Hey Jon, great find! I've got the linking happening between my GWT and GA accounts. Have you seen any changes to your GA dashboard? Are the GWT information being fed into GA once they are linked?

I don't see this feature in my Google Webmaster Tools Dashboard... looking in the Home page with all my site listed, only to see a Manage column on the right side...

Yes, this is true, but you have not been able to "Link" the accounts. Sign in and check it out! When you click the Link to Google Analytics link in webmaster tools it now shows a list of all of your Google Analytic accounts for you to choose from. You can also connect sub domains to it as well!

I am still a little confused. There are a lot of domain mispellings. How do you decide which ones to use? and; do you buy each one as a domain name?

Thanks for your comment, I have found in my experience since I wrote this post that actually making a keyword rich domain a live landing page with links pointing at the target site can add an additional entry point in the search results to your main site. It is best to make sure to have unique meta tags, title tag and description tag. And to answer your question, I would make the www and the non www go to the same site, so set the www as a cname record and then point all of your links at the www domain so that google and other search engines will display each landing page as a www in their search results, people are used to seeing the www. I have been reading number of articles on this subject and yours is one of the best! Thanks.

I have something to throw into the mix. I host sites on IIS7. I have a client who has a number of keyword domains (no content) which I redirect (301) to the main site. I also use the host headers. For example, mainsitecom and mainsitecom both are host headers (also called bindings in IIS).

For the keyword domains, I have the same keyworddomaincom and keywordwordcom as host headers with the keyworddomaincom redirected to mainsitecom.

Now, should we really set up both the www and no-www domains as individual sites and redirect both to mainsitecom or do the use of host headers act as a 301 since whenever a user requests the no-www domain it is redirected to the www domain by the host header.

BTW, IIS& has a great plug-in that does a site analysis and tells you about errors like broken links, multiple h1s, multiple canonical formats, different casings in links, etc. and it's FREE!

Google and most other search engines look at a redirected domain as an alias domain, they mark that that domain has been "Moved Permanently" to the targeted domain. Due to this fact there is no problem with duplicate content because it is all viewed as one website. But to further that explanation just a little bit, Google has only said to watch out for duplicate content on your own web page, they did not say a word about having duplicate content on any other website. They actually have never mentioned it, because its really not that big of a deal and won't get you penalized what-so-ever.

The main goal is to come up with the most unique content that you can so that it will stand out against other website's content, if you need to fill a blank by using something you have already written just try to use different words to describe it.

I have a feeling this may be a really dumb question, but how are you limiting your domain registration fees? What you are doing with DNS made easy doesn't also include the yearly registration fees does it?
